The All Progressives Congress Gubernatorial Candidate in the March 2019 gubernatorial election in Akwa Ibom State, and immediate past Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere has expressed his disappointment over what he termed “witch-hunting” orchestrated by his party Chieftain, Senator Godswill Akpabio who also doubles as the Federal Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
Mr. Ekere , according to one of his core confidants yesterday maintained that since Akpabio’s assumption as a Federal Minister, he has been witch-hunting him for unknown reasons.
That he is yet to ascertain the rationale behind the Minister seeking his fall even when he gave him more than ten different contracts that he is yet to execute.
The former NDDC Boss who also intimated his supporters of the activities in the intervention Commission during his era, stated emphatically that there was no month the Minister did not partake in the cake sharing formula of the Commission even before his defection to the APC last year.
According to the leak conversation made available to our newsroom, Mr. Ekere was quoted to have claimed that he was paying Akpabio every month.
“Even before his so called uncommon movement to our party, I was paying him so much money every month because of his plan to dump his former party.
“I was one of those who knew he was leaving PDP. I was privy to a lot of meetings between him and the national Chairman on different occasions.
“Even when he crossed over to our party, he kept demanding for money every blessed day with the excuse that he is mobilizing support for our party and myself. On the day the president came for a flag off in the state, he got N600m from me to mobilize crowd for that event, but later did nothing with the money.
“Let me not mention also how much money they connived to get from me on the eve of my election. Do they think I was plucking the money from the tree?
“The money was from the same NDDC they’re shouting of. The proofs are intact. If he thinks he is wise, then he should know he is a big joker. If I go down, all of them will go down with me”. An angry Nsima Ekere is quoted as saying.
Also, some APC Chieftains in the State have been accusing the Minister lately of using his position in fighting and victimizing the Ibibios, which the case of Nsima Ekere was cited as a clear example.
“If Akpabio does not withdraw himself from this witch-hunting, something disastrous may occur” , said a stakeholder in the party.
