Nigeria is set to manufacture locomotives, coaches and spare parts for the newly improved Railway Transport system through the Chinese company, CCECCC.
In simple language, Ogun State will be the host state for this project which will create about 5000 jobs, direct and indirect work force.
At the foundation laying ceremony on Saturday, November 9, 2019, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President who represented President Buhari urged CCECCC to hasten the construction of the project.
The Minister in charge, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi confirmed that the project when completed will help to reduce the challenges of Road Transportation particularly for passengers and Port users as the Rails now link up the the Sea Ports.
The locomotives and coaches will serve the already completed Abuja-Itakpe-Warri railway Which will help transport people and Steel from the Ajaokuta Steel Company, Itakpe.
The Abuja-Kaduna railway will also benefit from the project, as well as the ongoing Lagos-Ibadan railway.
It’s obvious that Government is poised to enforce the Order 5 of the Presidential Act which encourages local content. One thing is to build modern railways and trains, another thing its to have readily available spare parts for the maintenance of the Trains and the Railways.
