NDDC: NIGER DELTA YOUTHS PROTEST AGAINST INTERFERENCE OF COVID-19 PALLIATIVE DISTRIBUTION BY GOVERNORS

Hundreds of youths from the nine states of the Niger Delta have staged a peaceful protest to the headquarters of the Niger Delta Development Commission – NDDC demanding that state governors of the region desist forthwith from truncating NDDC palliative distribution across the region.

Leader of the protesters and Human Rights activist, Gani Topba alleged that governors of the region are mounting pressure on the commission that the NDDC COVID-19 Palliative Committee headed by Ambassador Sobomabo Jackrich should hand over the palliative materials to them, saying the move was delaying the the distribution of the palliatives.

Some of the protesters who also spoke with our correspondent expressed fears that if the relief materials are handed over to state governors, only their allies will benefit, while the ordinary citizens of the region especially the indigent people will be denied.

Meanwhile, the NDDC is yet to react to the protest, but placards with various inscriptions were handed over to officials of the commission by the protesters.
